This yummy root vegetable is highly nutritious and have several healthy benefits for our health, but there is one that I think it will be a surprise for you.
Here it goes: Sweet potatoes may support your immune system!
At the moment that we are living now, taking care of our health and specially, our immune system, is extremely important. And sweet potatoes are one of the richest natural sources of beta-carotene, a plant-based compound that is converted to vitamin A in your body.
But vitamin A is good for the immune system?
Well, vitamin A is critical to a healthy immune system because it helps maintaining healthy mucous membranes, especially in the lining of your gut.
Repeat this mantra with me: A healthy gut is a healthy immune system!
And it is easy-peasy to add sweet potatoes in our diet, here are some ideas:
Sweet potato fries: Peeled, cut into wedges or matchsticks, and baked or fried (use a good source of fat like olive oil, coconut oil, lard…).
Mashed sweet potatoes: Peeled, boiled, and mashed with coconut milk, Parmesan cheese and seasoning.
Baked sweet potatoes: A classic! Baked whole in the oven until fork-tender. You can add honey and cinnamon or for a salty version, sour cream, bacon bits and cheddar cheese.
Sweet potato hash: Peeled, diced, and cooked with onion. Yum!
Sweet potato toast: Yep, that’s right! Cut into thin slices, toasted, and topped with ingredients like nut butter or avocado.
Sweet potato chips: Peeled, thinly sliced, and baked or fried.
